Scope note
Aromatic, yellow gum resin obtained from various African, Arabian, and Indian trees of the Commiphora genus. Myrrh contains approximately 25% resin (mostly triterpenoids), 60% gum, and 15% volatile oils. Translucent yellow resins have been used for incense and perfumes since ancient times. Myrrh has also been used for its healing properties in traditional medicines.
