Scope note
Refers to a system of projection generally used in creating large-scale map series, where each map is depicted as part of a cone tangent to the globe at the particular latitude. The projection is based on the concept of a series of concentric cones being placed over the sphere so that each cone is tangent to a different latitude, where only the section of each unrolled cone that lies along a common central meridian of longitude and forms a strip on both sides of the line of tangency is represented. In this system, all parallels of latitude are arcs of nonconcentric circles, and the meridians of longitude other than the central meridian are represented by curved lines.
