Hallotype (process)

- Color and stereoscopic relief process patented by John Bishop Hall of New York in 1856. Two similar prints were used, one made transparent with dammar varnish, the other painted with washes of color. The transparent print was registered on top of the painted one and the two bound together with a glass and backing.
