monotype (planographic process)
- Scope note
- A printing process that consists of painting an image onto a plate and then laying a support on top to transfer the image. Only one impression can be made, although if enough of the original paint remains on the plate, subsequent prints can be made by reapplication. These prints are called ghosts or cognates, and no two prints will be alike.
