A Hindu festival celebrating the birth of the elephant-headed god Ganesha. This festival, lasting seven to ten days, culminates on the fourth day of the lunar month of Bhadra (August-September). It is particularly popular in the Maharashtra state in India. Worshippers place instruments of work before Ganesha, god of wisdom and prosperity, in order for them to be blessed. This joyous festival features many statues and images of Ganesha and culminates in a spectacular parade called Ganesha Visarjana. Worshippers are forbidden to look at the moon on this day because the moon laughed at Ganesha when he fell from his mount, the rat.
