Scope note
The festival of Mikong is the Kanakanavu people’s celebration of millet harvest in honor of their millet god, tamu vinaʉ. Today, the festival is held in October on an annual basis. The festival takes place after the millet harvest, proceeding from family prayers, making rice cakes (“pepe”), presenting offerings to the millet god to bidding farewell to the millet god. Once the family ritual is over, each family is to bring their home-made pepe, wine and fish to cakʉrʉ (“tribal meeting place”) to attend tribal worship.
