Scope note
A springtime festival celebrating the deities Huitzilopochtli and Tezcatlipoca after which the veintena (a period of twenty days in the Nahua calendar) is also named. A famous massacre occured during Toxcatl in the year Ome Tecpatl (Two Flint, or 1520) when a small force led by Spanish conquistadores attacked celebrants in the temple precinct of Tenochtitlan.
