Scope note
Variety of Maori pounamu stone that is clear like glass, and ranges in color from olive-green to bluish-green. It is the stone used earliest as pounamu. The composition is typically bowenite rather than nephrite. Most tangiwai is comes from two isolated areas at Piopiotahi (Milford Sound).
