trunk nails
- Scope note
- Nails of various types used for wooden trunks, both to hold panels together and to attach leather or thin wooden supports to the face of panels. When attaching supports, the nails were driven part way into the panel and then a piece of iron was held against the interior, so that the nail hit the iron and clinched or curled back into the wood, in order create a smooth interior surface.
