- Plucked harp lutes of the Manding linguistic and cultural family of Africa, having a long neck passing diametrically through a large gourd resonator covered with leather, 21 leather or nylon strings arranged in two parallel ranks perpendicular to the resonator on either side of a vertical notched bridge, and two handles, one on the outer side of each rank of strings. They are played only by male professional musicians.
