Narrow pieces of lace, lawn, or other soft cloth worn by women inside or around the neck opening when wearing a low-cut bodice, especially from the 17th to the early 19th century. For more shaped accessories or main garments made with or without sleeves and worn especially from the 19th to the early 20th century, use "chemisettes."
