Usually having a collar, which may be detachable, often a front opening, and sometimes pockets. Specifically often refers to an article of male attire with long sleeves terminating in wristbands or cuffs. It originally referred to undergarments for the upper part of the body, made of linen, calico, flannel, silk, or other washable material; originally always worn next to the skin.
