Scope note
Refers to a kind of decorative material that is generally classified as lace. It is made of knotted thread that is netted with a small flat shuttle-shaped instrument using stout sewing-thread. It is composed of knots or stitches and picots, forming rings and semicircles, which are arranged in patterns or shapes. Tatting is typically used for edging or trimming, and sometimes for doilies, collars, or parasol covers.
