Assisi work
- Scope note
- Modern term for a type of embroidery made in various places, including Italy, since the 16th century. The pattern in Assisi work is reserved in plain linen and the rest of the ground is covered with long-armed cross stitch in red or other colors. It was supposedly first produced in convents in Assisi although this is unlikely; the term instead probably derives from the fact that such embroidery has been made in Assisi in recent times.
