Scope note
Period of toolmaking tradition characterized by crude bi-directionally chipped tools of quartz, quartzite, or basalt, used for chopping, scraping, or cutting. These date from the early Paleolithic. It is thought that these implements were manufactured by early hominids or robust australopithecines.
