Nagare

- Refers to the style of Shinto architecture that developed during the Nara (710-794) and Heian periods (794-1185). The style is characterized by a type of shrine that is small in size and constructed in a two-bay by three-bay system upon a earthen mound. The roof or canopy sweeps down on the long side of the building, covering the stairs and providing shelter for worshippers.
