Scope note
Refers to the style of Shinto architecture that developed around 300 BCE. The style is characterized by a type of shrine that is rectangular in shape, divided into two parts and constructed of rough unbarked wood. The roof is gabled with each end terminating in two crossed members, and is supported by large round posts.
