Scope note
Refers to the art and architectural style and movement concerned mainly with expression by means of constructions, noted as a particularly austere branch of abstract art. It was influenced by Cubism and Futurism and centered in Russia around 1913. The movement was announced in the publication of the Realist Manifesto in 1920, the name coming from one of its proclamations "to construct" art. The style is characterized by simple, precise abstract compositions typically of modern materials, such as steel, glass, and iron.
