Scope note
Order containing around approximately 400 species in six families including jacamars, puffbirds, barbets, honey guides, and toucans. Characterized as forest dwelling, hole-nesting birds that feed upon insects and fruit, having outer toes able to face rearward, some are specialized for climbing, and some that are brood parasites.
