Scope note
An essential oil derived from steaming the leaves of the Australian tea tree. Tea tree oil is believed to have antibacterial properties and is used as a topical treatment for a variety of skin conditions. It is commonly found in skin products including soaps and lotions. In a conservation context it has been used to control fungi, bacteria, and other biodeteriogens on paper objects and in collection care.
