nickel-plating
- Scope note
- Nickel plating is a process by which a metal (usually steel) is provided with a nickel layer. This forms a protective layer that protects against rust and other corrosion. There are two methods, a chemical (also called electroless or autocatalytic) nickel plating: where the object is immersed and autocatalytic chemical reactions take place in a bath, and galvanic or electrolytic nickel plating: where the object is hung in a bath and nickel plated by electrolysis, acting as a cathode.
