Scope note
Semi-transparent liquid obtained from the gall bladders of cattle. Used in cleaning, painting, and formerly for medicinal purposes. Contains sodium choleate salts (taurochloate and glycochloate) with some cholesterol, lecithin, and other substances. Examples of use include as a wetting agent in watercolor, in marbling, engraving, lithography, textile dyeing, and as a plasticizer in glue-paste mixtures.
