Paint coatings that have a characteristic intumescence when exposed to high heat. A foaming or bubbling layer forms in the paint layer that insulates the material beneath, protecting it from reaching a flash point. This type of paint may be based on silicone, casein, borax, polyvinyl chloride, urea formaldehyde or other substances.
