corduroy roads
- Scope note
- Roads, paths, walkways, or trackways formed by laying tree trunks or split logs close together transversely, with the rounded surface upwards; a common usage of such roads is to cross a swamp or muddy area with vehicles. For walkways or cart paths that are slightly raised, made of cut timbers, used to cross a swamp or bog, and often in an archaeological context, use "timber trackways."
