draw looms
- Scope note
- Devices, both mechanized and manual, that use various cords or leashes held in place by a narrow perforated comber-board or draw loom harness to weave intricately figured fabrics in adherance with pre-designed patterns. Preceeding the invention of the Jacquard loom, these devices can be dated to the sixth century and are of Asiatic origin. While their cords were once manually operated by drawboys seated on top of the looms, they were eventually designed to be automatically controlled.
