dyeing kettles
- Scope note
- Cylindrical vessels, typically made of metal such as lead, copper, or iron, used to facilitate the application of color to textile materials. The fabrics to be dyed are placed in the vessel and wet thoroughly with warm water before the colored dye is applied to create a dye bath. These vessels are often large in size to allow fibre bundles to be stock dyed, and are sometimes fitted with racks on which textile materials are hung while submerged in the dye bath.
