fadeometers
- Scope note
- Accelerated aging testing devices designed to measure a fabric's color fastness or resistance to color fading caused by exposure to strong light, ultraviolet rays, or other damaging external light sources. These devices expose dyed textile samples to a carbon arc, which emits an intense actinic light that mimics the effects of natural light, for extended periods of time. Although the device's actinic light does not directly duplicate the effect of natural light exposure, it is the most effective indicator of a textile material's light stability.
