Scope note
Devices typically equipped with handles that, when manually turned, are designed to twist loose yarn into a center-pull ball or skein. Many such devices also measure the yarn to a desired length based on the number of manual handle rotations performed by the spinner. Some yarn winders are also mechanized, bypassing the need for manual handle turning.
