Scope note
Mechanized devices designed to uniformly and gradually stretch cotton goods and other textile fabrics that have contracted through the course of bleaching, dyeing, printing, and other textile fabrication processes. Specifically, these devices carry out a textile finishing process that prepares materials for the market by laying their warp and woof yarns in parallel poisitions. The machines typically comprise a series of large rubber-covered stretching pulleys mounted on a driving shaft, a traveling belt, and two pairs of corrugated wheels. As fabric is fed into the device, it is held under the pulleys by the pressure of a traveling belt acting against the lower half of each pulley; when the wheels move the pulleys, the fabric is likewise pulled to achieve to the user's desired width.
