hock glasses
- Scope note
- Drinking glass of a distinctive type, intended to be used for German white Rhine wines, which were called "hock" in Britain in the 19th century. The glasses have a round foot, tall stem, and small- to medium-sized bowl, often colored, and generally globular in shape with or without a flared lip. The most frequent bowl color is light green with gilt or cut decorations. Later examples have a clear bowl, but a colored stem.
