Scope note
Medieval French term for portable coffers or chests used for personal luggage, covered in leather and studded with nails and usually having a rounded top. Eventually they took the form of a chest mounted on feet, used for storing goods. The current French form is a decorative high chest or cabinet with an arched or curved top.
