videodiscs (video recording disks)
- Scope note
- Optical disks on which still images, moving images or sound are recorded in an analog format. The images can be displayed on a video monitor, such as a television attached to a videodisc player, which may be controlled by a computer. Prior to the introduction of compact disks, which also use a laser to read the data, videodiscs were sometimes referred to as "laser disks." For the digital versatile disc format specifically, use "DVDs."
