Scope note
In intaglio printmaking, impressions left on the sheet of paper or other support; a platemark marks the edges of the plate and is caused by the pressure applied in the process of printing. Although prints are sometimes trimmed within the platemark, prints having supports with the platemark intact are considered more valuable.
