Scope note
Beads with religious significance that were introduced to Japan from Korea. They are found in the prehistoric graves of ancient Japan and it is thought that they were worn on the body from the beginning of Japan's recorded history up until the Kofun period (300-710). These beads were carved from jadeite, agate, talc, glass or jasper usually into comma shapes and varied in size from a few millimeters to five centimeters.
