Scope note
Machine-made laces produced in Nottingham, England. In order to carry this designation, the lace may be of any variety of patterns, but it must be knitted, twisted or embroidered in the United Kingdom by a member of the British Lace Federation. The term originally referred to lace produced on the Nottingham-lace machines, which was an invention that was originally used primarily for coarse lace production, employing larger bobbins than other lace machines and using pattern threads that were wound independently on section spools.
