Kyoto
- Scope note
- Refers generally to the ceramics produced in and around the city of Kyoto, with the exception of raku ware, made from the 8th century to the present. Productions from the 8th century are typically three-colored, lead-glazed ware and monochrome green wares from the 9th to the 11th century. By the mid-17th century, productions have polychrome glazes with decorative motifs often comprised of built up layers of enamel, giving a three-dimensional effect.
