Scope note
Generally, the style and culture of a Turkic-speaking people living around Shiraz in Persia. Specifically, a style of carpets handwoven by the Qashqa'i people, who have the reputation of making the best rugs from the Shiraz district of Iran. The coloring of the carpets employs rich blues and reds, with limited use of golden yellow. Usually the designs are geometric, sometimes with a row of three diamond medallions against a background replete with tiny forms of all kinds, including stylized animals and birds. The designs are often based on Persian urban sources. The carpets are asymmetrically knotted on an all-wool foundation.
