cerulean blue (pigment)

- Synthetic sky blue pigment composed of cobalt stannate; it is inert, lightfast, unaffected by acids or alkalis, and expensive. It is made by a process developed in Germany in 1805; originally sold as a pigment in 1860 under the name "Coeruleum."
