Scope note
Composite mixture of pigment having a pinkish hue, often available pre-mixed, and intended for use as a flesh color resembling Caucasian flesh tones. Typically used only in western art prior to the early 1900s. Types and proportions of the pigments used for this mixture varied. For the technique of painting to resemble flesh tones, particularly Caucasian, use "encarnacione (technique)."
