Scope note
Variegated leather, usually but not always calf, which has been decorated with a speckled pattern by sprinkling dye or ferrous sulfate upon it. Distinct from "mottled calf" which has had dye or ferrous sulfate daubed on it with a sponge or piece of cotton to create an irregular spotted pattern.
