lace bindings
- Scope note
- An 18th-century French bookbinding style in which 17th-century lace or dentelle borders were expanded to fill most of the cover, with only a central space left for a coat-of-arms. The wavy pattern of the tooling on the edges also created a lacy effect. The bookbinders Derome and Dubuisson made lace bindings.
