pap spoons
- Scope note
- Spoons having a fairly large carrying bowl and a rounded end, designed for feeding pap, which is liquid or semi-liquid grain meal moistened with water and suitable for babies or invalids. The pap is sipped from the bowl or poured from the bowl into the mouth. The bowl is somewhat larger than that of a baby spoon or feeding spoon, the bowls of which are designed to fit entirely within the baby's mouth. These spoons were popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries. They are often of silver and given as gifts, intended to be kept as a memento of infanthood.
