Special lamps that are lit with the intention of expressing devotion for a religious purpose. Devotional lamps have existed since ancient times; they are found in many cultures, including in Hinduism, Judaism, and Christianity. Examples are lamps that burn before images or statues in Christian churches. To distinguish lamps lit specifically in recognition of a vow, prayer, or desire, use "votive lamps."
