Scope note
Clocks of great accuracy containing a deadbeat escapement and temperature-compensated pendulum used for the regulation of other timepieces; usually tall case clocks in form. These were initially used in observatories and clock and watch shops as the standard of accuracy during repairs, synchronization, and manufacturing.
