Internet-based discussion forums in which messages are exchanged via electronic mail, rather than through a bulletin board system or newsgroup. LISTSERV (TM) is a trademarked term for a commercial software product devoted to managing electronic mailing lists. Though "listserv" is often generically used to refer to any such software application, and commonly to mailing lists themselves, "electronic mailing lists" is preferred.
