color spheres
- Scope note
- Charts depicting a spherical (three-dimenisonal) arrangement of colors in which segments include the contiguous spectral hues of primary, secondary, and tertiary colors as well as colors mixed with progressively more black and white to create variations of hue, saturation and brightness. Contrasting colors are usually opposite one another in the sphere, moving toward the achromatic black and white on the surface at the poles or in the cut-away center of the sphere. Color spheres may vary depending upon whether they are intended to illustrate mixing of colored pigments, color perception, or color psychology.
