Scope note
Photographs produced by using photosensitive plant material. An emulsion of crushed flower petals or light-sensitive plants, fruit, or vegetables is created, then spread onto a sheet of paper and dried. The material to be imaged is placed on the paper and exposed to direct sunlight. The technique to create anthotypes was discovered by Sir John Frederick William Herschel ca. 1842.
