Fast growing deciduous tree, occurring naturally in India, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and southern China. It has been cultivated in Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Malaysia. It is also planted as an ornamental elsewhere, is harvested for its wood, and used for papermaking pulp.
