- Fine, very firm, flexible hand-grained leather prepared from goatskin tanned with sumac, having a distinctive pebbly grain and used especially in bookbinding, shoemaking, and upholstery. Also may refer to any vegetable-tanned goatskin leather. The leather was thought to have been first developed in Morocco, for which it is named.
