Scope note
Wood derived from either of two species in the Guibourtia genus of western Africa; it has a light red, brown, or violet background with evenly spaced pink or purple stripes. The wood is of medium texture and polishes to a high gloss. It is used, often as veneer, for cabinets, pianos, other furniture, and for smaller decorative items such as handles and boxes.
